article imageEd Sheeran hails The Paramount as the 'best in the world'

By Markos Papadatos     Jul 7, 2014 in Music
Huntington - Pop superstar Ed Sheeran played a surprise concert in Long Island this past Saturday, July 5, as his album "Multiply" hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 all-genre charts.
Sheeran hosted two private listening sessions in the afternoon of July 5 at The Paramount's Founders Room for local radio stations WALK 97.5 FM and WBLI 106.1 FM, and The Paramount staff gave Sheeran a full tour of the venue during his first visit to Huntington.
Sheeren seemed to enjoy The Paramount’s intimacy, ambiance and attention to detail, so he decided to hold a last-minute, surprise, impromptu, live show upstairs on the main floor. With no objections from management, he tweeted to his millions of fans and followers, "I'm sat at the paramount venue in Huntington, I've decided I wanna play a gig tonight, it's such a lovely venue I couldn't resist, so..."
In a two-hour time period, the entire venue, which holds 1,555 people, was sold out at $20 per ticket. He took the stage around 9:45 p.m. and he played for over two hours to screaming fans, where his set included such hit songs as "The A Team" and "Lego House," among others.
The pop mega-star complimented The Paramount and offered these parting words: "I've played a lot of venues around the world, and The Paramount is by far the best!"
Having been afforded the privilege to review concerts and comedies on a regular basis at this venue in Huntington, I definitely agree with Sheeran's reasoning, with The Paramount being "the best venue."
"Ed Sheeran is a global superstar and we were grateful for the chance he gave Long Island to see him live in concert," Brian Doyle, co-director of The Paramount, remarked in a press release.
"It's not very often that a musician of his caliber offers to surprise his fans with a full concert, while currently having the No. 1 album in the U.S.," exclaimed Stephen Ubertini, co-director of The Paramount.
