DJ Styline talks electronic dance music, Winter Music Conference (Includes interview)

On the electronic dance music scene, he said, “EDM as a term for me honestly only means a very restricted style of music! Electronic Music in general though represents the freedom of having artists of any nationality and taste join together and express themselves in the most vary way possible! I love discovering new talents and supporting the actual music, not just the names being commercialized by big companies.”

He has had success with “Rose” and the remix of Valentino Khan’s “Deep Down Low.” “Seeing a track like ‘Rose’ going viral like it did and being picked up by Spinnin’ is absolutely mind-blowing for me. All the tracks I produced really focus on delivering a good groove and are available as free downloads,” he said. “Seeing the vast majority of people understanding that vibe and supporting it the way they do is an amazing feeling! My Remix of ‘Deep Down Low’ was played by likes of David Guetta, Axwell & Ingrosso, Blasterjaxx, Dada Life and on BBC Radio 1, which is the best confirmation you can get as someone that is establishing a fresh sound in the industry.”

Regarding his plans for the future, he said, “I am working on building up my Power House Movement. Power House is a concept that is not restricted on a certain sound or vibe, but sets the outline to all kinds of different styles whilst keeping a unique signature.”

He continued, “Phase 1 of the Power House Movement included 15 tracks of different moods and was a great success, setting a clear statement what this genre is all about. From funky piano riffs, over hard hitting baselines up to the darkest tech sounds – all releases have their own character and really show the variety of Power House!
Now I’m working on Phase 2, and it will take all this to the next level! Imagine Phase 1 on steroids, and then you’re not even close to being prepared for what is coming.”

Styline is looking forward to Winter Music Conference in Florida. “WMC is probably the most intense week of partying in the entire industry! As much as it lost its actual business relation a bit, it’s even a better occasion to connect to artists and labels on a musical level. I’ll be throwing quite a few parties within these nine days and hopefully see Miami getting down on some Power House,” he said.

When asked about the future of EDM, he said, “I don’t think the term EDM will be used anymore in five years. People are being educated more and more about electronic music and are already looking for their own niche and style. Tastes are different and I hope to see all these different genres grow and build their own, dedicated scenes.”

For aspiring DJs Styline concluded, “Focus on your love for music, not on trying to eventually end up on a massive stage playing in front of thousands of people. A lot of upcoming DJs miss the most crucial part of DJing, which is connecting and communicating with the crowd, rocking small parties and making them dance to music they might never heard before but instantly gonna like throughout the progression of your set.”
