article imageDallas Smith talks 'Wastin' Gas' single and 'Lifted' EP Special

By Markos Papadatos     Nov 20, 2014 in Music
Canadian country singer Dallas Smith chatted about his forthcoming EP "Lifted," as well as his new single "Wastin' Gas."
Smith noted that he was drawn to his single "Wastin' Gas," the moment that he heard it. "We got into the studio with Joey Moi and we cut it. The demo was very laid-back and not as aggressive and guitar-heavy as it is. I am pretty excited with how it turned out," he said.
For his new EP, which comes out on Monday, via his label (Big Loud Mountain), he wanted to create more dynamics with these songs. "I wanted to have the ammunition to go and have a more dynamic live show as well. I used a lot of different instruments on this record, and there are a couple of ballads. I am excited for everybody to hear them," he said.
This past summer, Smith garnered three Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) nominations. "It was a good time and we enjoyed playing 'Tippin' Point' on the show. It was a good weekend," he said.
His single "Tippin' Point" has been certified platinum, and he is proud of this milestone. "There was only one other song in Canada that achieved that. I am happy it did that well," he said.
Smith's future will be quite busy, especially since he will be performing in many festivals. "That will be fun," he said.
He had nothing but praise for singing sensation Jess Moskaluke, who was named "Female Artist of the Year" at this year's CCMA awards, who subsequently listed Smith as a dream duet choice. "That is amazing and really cool. We played a show together about a month ago, and she is a great singer. She is a really nice girl," he said.
Smith listed the title track as his favorite song off the new project.
