article imageCountry singer Brandon Alan talks 'Through The Cracks' and music Special

By Markos Papadatos     Dec 6, 2014 in Music
Country singer Brandon Alan chatted about his new single "Through The Cracks," a duet with Texas country star Bart Crow.
On his new single "Through the Cracks," he said, "I wrote this one while I was in Nashville and it started out as a guitar riff, and I was trying to figure out what kind of lyrics to write with it. It is about handling pressure in your life. Water is a metaphor in the entire song. I tried to do it in a way that hasn't been done before," he said. "We had Bart jump on board. His voice is so different than mine. His addition to the song was really cool. We wanted the traditional country beat to it."
An Austin, Texas, resident, Alan was selected by the Country Music Association's CMA Closeup magazine as a "Who New To Watch in 2014." His musical style encompasses country, rock and contemporary blues; moreover, he has been praised as "John Mayer dipped in a country river." He has opened for multi-Grammy winner and Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill, as well as The Time Jumpers, Ed Roland of Collective Soul, John Mayer and Ben Folds.
Alan's latest self-titled LP is eclectic and it was released on November 18. It was produced by former Seal drummer and current partner at Creative Arts Group, Ramy Antoun. "The album has ten tracks and all of the songs were written in the last couple of years. We recorded all of them in Austin and it was pretty cool," he said.
His musical influences include Jimi Hendrix, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Sting, Joe Walsh, Matchbox 20, Johnny Rzeznik from the Goo Goo Dolls, among others. He was introduced to the guitar thanks to his father, who was once an aspiring guitar player himself, who had taught him to play the musical instrument on an iconic 74 Les Paul.
He revealed that he is probably on Facebook more than Twitter. "I start a radio tour on Monday in Texas," he said. "It will be a fun week."
