By Markos Papadatos     Jul 22, 2014 in Music
Country artist Colt Ford opened up about his latest studio album "Thanks for Listening," his new single "Workin' On," his tour with Toby Keith and golf.
Ford's new CD was released on July 1, marking his fifth career studio album. It fared well debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums charts, as well as No. 1 on the Billboard Independent Label charts. "It is the best record I ever made. I really dig it from top to bottom," he said. "I am a true independent artist on a real independent label."
On this new project, he collaborated with such musical acts as Keith Urban, Willie Robertson, Lee Brice, Justin Moore, Randy Houser, Jerrod Niemann, Walker Hayes, among others. "All of those guys are friends of mine, and it is great to make music with your buddies and that is what I get to do. I have been so blessed, and it is extremely humbling when you take artists of that level since they are all great artists. It is humbling that they take their time from what they are doing to be a part of my music. I couldn't be more excited," he said.
Ford continued, "This new album is for the fans. I made it with them in mind. They are the reason that we are here and every artist needs to remember that."
His current single is "Workin' On" just went to the radio airwaves. "This is one of the coolest that I have ever recorded without a doubt. It's hard to combine hope and pain in one song but this does that. It has a great message to it," he said.
As of July 1, Ford was named NRA Country's "Featured Artist." "That was cool and they have been very good to me. I am a lifetime member and it's cool. There are lots of people on both sides of the fence there. I am proud to be a part of it," he said.
He is out on the road touring on select dates with country superstar Toby Keith as part of his "Shut Up and Hold On" summer tour, which he dubbed as a "surreal" feeling. "Toby is somebody that I had always wanted to work with, and I have been a huge fan. I am overwhelmed with joy to be a part of that, since he is one of my favorite artists," he said.
As a prolific songwriter, Ford co-wrote Jason Aldean's chart-topping hit single, "Dirt Road Anthem," with fellow country singer-songwriter Brantley Gilbert. "When Brantley and I were working on that song, we never expected it to achieve that much. It turned out to be something really special. To have that song be that big has been unreal. It's the biggest song of Jason's career, and it has done well for Brantley and myself," he said.
His music video for "Drivin' Around Song," filmed in Charlotte, North Carolina, features NASCAR's Danica Patrick and her boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse. "That was a gigantic song for me and it has done unbelievably well. We filmed the video in the summer, but it couldn't fit in Jason's schedule, so I called Danica and Ricky and they were both excited to do it and it worked out really good for me," he said.
Ford's future plans are to continue doing what he does best: making music for a living. "I am lucky to play for a living and I want to give the fans everything I have got each time I take the stage. It is a wonderful thing to be a part of. I love what I am doing and I am grateful," he said.
A former professional golfer, Ford resides in his home-state of Georgia with his family. "I still play golf and I have been playing a lot lately, more than I have in the last few years. I realized how much I miss playing it, so it has been fun to do that," he said.
In 2013, he toured with such artists as Eric Church on his national Canadian tour, as well as country duo Florida Georgia Line's 34-city tour in the United States.
He listed Taylor Swift and Jay-Z as two of his "wish list" collaboration choices.
