article imageCollin McLoughlin talks 'Here Tonight,' Dash Berlin and new music Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 7, 2014 in Music
Singer Collin McLoughlin chatted about being a part of Dash Berlin's new single "Here Tonight" and he opened up about his future plans and experience on "The Voice."
Regarding the electronic dance single "Here Tonight," he remarked, "It is actually a crazy story. I wrote the vocal to that song about two years ago. Jay Cosmic and I got introduced and he sent me an idea that really spoke to me, and it worked perfectly. Jay loved it and he had just met up with Dash Berlin at the airport, and all of us finished it as a collaboration. We agreed to do it together, I changed some of the vocals, and they finished the production on it, and it came together pretty quick at that point, and it was pretty amazing."
He added, "It's pretty exciting. The funny thing about that video is that I never met any of them in person, until that video shoot. We had this whole song, without even meeting each other. I can't say enough great things about either of them. I have met a bunch of different people in the music industry, especially in dance music, and Dash Berlin's team is by far the most professional, they are great people and they make the best product."
As Digital Journal reported, "Here Tonight" garnered a favorable review, and rightfully so.
In addition to being a vocalist, Mcloughlin is also a melodic bass producer and DJ, who is originally from Bedford, New York. "Now I actually enjoy producing more than I like writing vocals," he said with a laugh. "I love both, but in production you are able to control and manipulate the entire environment in a way you just can't do with vocals."
Several notable performances of his include playing at Cielo in New York with Sound Remedy, performing at Pacha in New York City with Deniz Koyu, as well as headlining several shows in Puerto Vallarta. "Those were some great DJ gigs. The Puerto Vallarta shows were some of the best that I have ever played. I had a blast down there," he exclaimed.
Aside from his Dash Berlin collaboration, McLoughlin has worked with such musical acts as Vicetone on "Heartbeat," world's top DJ Hardwell on "Spaceman (Unplugged)", as well as Laidback Luke & Project 46 on "Collide."
He was a member of "Team Adam (Levine)" on the third season of the NBC singing competition The Voice. He wowed the judges with his version of Cat Stevens' "Wild World," causing three of them to turn their chairs for him. While he may have lost in the battle rounds to Bryan Keith on Sublime's "Santeria," he eventually was saved by Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton, ending up on Team Blake, making him the first artist stolen in the competition's history. "That was great and I had fun with it. I did it to gain more exposure with what I was doing. It was a great experience working with everybody and I was glad that I did it," he said.
McLoughlin has been named "Artist to Watch in 2014" on Your EDM's official website, as well as "Artist to Watch" on EDM Tunes. "That was so nice of them, and they have been great supporters," he said. "They made it a cool point that there are not that many people that can produce and sing on their own tracks, with Calvin Harris being the biggest and most recognizable example."
McLoughlin listed Kaskade and Armin van Buuren as two other acclaimed DJs and producers that he would love to someday collaborate with. "Kaskade was one of the first people that I heard in this style of music, and I would love to do something with Armin since he embodies the type of sound that sits very well with me as an artist and as a vocalist. That would be a real dream collaboration as well," he said.
