Country newcomer Chris Lane chatted about his debut single "Broken Windshield View" and his tour with country duo Florida Georgia Line and rapper Nelly.
His breakthrough single hit country radio and iTunes on June 10, where it shattered digital sales records with 11,247 downloads in its first week, which is quite impressive for a new artist. "That felt great. All the love and support was unbelievable and amazing," he said. "Everybody on the team is happy with the outcome and the song is doing really well, which is encouraging to see."
It was produced by by Joey Moi, who has worked with such artists as Florida Georgia Line and Jake Owen, and it was co-penned by songwriters Rodney Clawson, Shane Minor, and David Lee Murphy. "Joey is awesome and I couldn't hope for a better producer to be working on my debut record with. I am thankful to work with somebody who has had so much success, and I hope to follow a little bit in Jake's and Florida Georgia Line's footsteps. Those guys are great and they have bright futures," he said.
The single reached Top 10 on iTunes in the United States, as well as the Top 5 on iTunes in Canada during its first week. "I played sports my entire life, and I never thought that I would be singing. It is pretty wild how things have turned out. When I first heard the song, it grabbed me right away and I thought it was only fitting that my first single is called 'Broken Windshield View,'" he said.
It has been featured in SiriusXM's The Highway and highlighted as "New and Noteworthy" on iTunes; moreover, Lane made Digital Journal's "Top 10 Male Country Singers to Watch in 2014" list.
A Kernersville, North Carolina, native, Lane has served as an opening act for Florida Georgia Line's headlining "This Is How We Roll Summer Series 2014" tour, along with special guest Nelly. "When I first found out the news, I could not believe that they would actually ask me to be a part of such a major tour. I could not think of two better people to spend my summer with," he said.
He is signed to Big Loud Mountain and is working on his upcoming studio project with Moi. "Everybody there is great. I am happy to be a part of their team," he said.
Over the course of his musical career, Lane has sold out club shows across his home state of North Carolina, where he has played well over 500 shows the past few years and opened for such acts as The Band Perry, Eli Young Band, Lee Brice, Chris Young, Brantley Gilbert, among others. "I had just been starting out at that point, and I was excited to learn from what these artists were doing. I learned from the best," he said.
Lane listed Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and even pop mega-star Katy Perry as his dream female duet choices.
