Doug Gray, the lead singer of the iconic southern rock group Marshall Tucker Band, chatted about their forthcoming show at B.B. Kings in New York City this weekend.
The concert will take place on Saturday, December 13, and fans can expect a lot of surprises, the front-man revealed. "We will be doing 'Desert Skies' at that show, which is something that we do not normally do. We have been working up a little rendition of that. Also, 'Asking Too Much of You' is one of the show-stoppers. It is one of those songs that everybody loves. I will put off one of our old country songs that we did, back in the old days, and I want them to understand the lyrics. I kind of walk out and pick somebody in the audience and sing to them," Gray said.
He added, "I have a couple of little surprises. I like surprises and I am bring up a guitar player with me. His name is Shane Pruitt and he is a blues artist from Spartanburg. He has been with me on a couple of cruises with us. Once you hear him, you will know why Spartanburg, South Carolina, has something in the water. He is 20 years younger than us and he is hanging with us on those three days."
Gray dubbed the B.B. Kings Blues Club in New York as their "holiday" bash concert. "The audience is our family and we drive forward to make those things happen that way. I just cannot wait to get there again, since we have so many great ideas," he said. "B.B. Kings treats us like an honor system. They don't question the audience and we all go out there and have a good time."
Their latest live album, Englishtown, received rave reviews from Digital Journal.
