Catching up with country singer John King: ‘On Your Lips’ (Includes interview)

Regarding his new single, “On Your Lips,” King said with a laugh, “It was a song that I actually wrote as a pick-up line. I figured there weren’t enough good, cheesy pick-up lines out there, so I would add my own to the pile. The whole song was kind of based around the idea of a guy talking to a girl, and the girl asking him questions, such as ‘what do you do’ or ‘what do you want to be’ and the guy would just look her deep into the eyes and say something like ‘The only thing I want to be is the next thing on your lips.'”

King added, “It has a funny hook to it, and I think that the fans gravitate towards the cleverness of it. It was a cute song to start with. My wife liked its pick-up line, and that’s why I wrote the song. So far, the fans and everybody have nothing but great words to say for the song and that gets me excited.”

He listed “On Your Lips” as his favorite song off his latest EP, which was released on Black River Entertainment. “It is so energetic and so fun to play live. It is just a rocking tune, and I grew up loving southern rock music, so it really fits what I do so well,” he said. “The EP has a lot of different songs on there. ‘Baseball Cap’ is a really sexy song, and ‘Something In The Water’ has a hooky melody to it, and it is very autobiographical,” he added.

King revealed that his breakthrough hit single “Tonight Tonight” is “the perfect wedding song” and it is also ideal “for any big event.”
