Catching up with American Idol’s Rayvon Owen: ‘Can’t Fight It’ (Includes interview)

On his new single, “Can’t Fight It,” Owen said, “I wrote it with Mylen, a buddy of mine here in Los Angeles, and we were just kind of vibing on the song, and getting a good feeling. At the time, honestly, I did not know that it was going to correlate well with me sharing my story. I’ve always had that kind of theme in mind, writing a song about not denying the love that you are experiencing. The song is about not acknowledging a relationship or a connection with someone because of fear. That’s basically what the song is about.”

Most recently, Owen opened up to Billboard Magazine about his sexuality. “It was definitely the scariest thing I’ve done,” he said with a sweet laugh.”I guess it was something I was ready to share. I was extremely nervous and very panicking. I got to a point, personally, where I was comfortable with it, but as far as my career and the public at large, it was not something that I wanted to share with everyone. I wanted to be completely authentic.”

Owen noted that he is bummed that this season of American Idol is the final one. “I missed the past few episodes, but I’m playing catch-up. So far it is really good. I am sad it is over,” he said.
