article imageCalvin Harris claims EDM crown at Teen Choice Awards

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 16, 2014 in Music
EDM sensation Calvin Harris was crowned "Choice: Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Artist" at this year's Teen Choice Awards, that took place on August 10.
A Scottish DJ, singer-songwriter and producer, Harris bested such heavyweight name in the electronic music genre such as Martin Garrix, Kaskade, Skrillex and Zedd.
His song "Summer" was also in the running in two categories for "Choice: EDM song," where he lost to Avicii's "Wake Me Up," and "Choice: Summer Song," where Demi Lovato and Cher Lloyd took home the win for "Really Don't Care."
In "Summer," Harris returns as a vocalist, which is something we saw on his previous single, "Feels So Close." This is quite rare in the dance genre for a DJ to sing his own vocals, and one of the few other vocalists and producers that does that is Collin McLoughlin, who is featured on Dash Berlin and Jay Cosmic's new track "Here Tonight."
"Summer" peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs charts, where after charting for 22 weeks, it is still in the Top 5, sitting at No. 4.
Earlier in the year, he was nominated for two Grammy Awards in the dance music categories for "Sweet Nothing," his collaboration with power-vocalist Florence Welch (from the rock group Florence and the Machine), as well as for "Best Dance/Electronica Album" for his latest studio album, 18 Months.
