What's more punk rock than representing for equal rights? Not much, and Bayside is doing their part to support the efforts to attain equality for the LGBT community.
New York punk rock legends Bayside have teamed with the Human Rights Campaign and "Equality Rocks," lending a rainbow version of their iconic bird logo to a t-shirt that is currently on sale in their webstore. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the limited edition shirt will go to benefit the fight for equality for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender Americans. Dubbed the "Bayside Pride" shirt, it retails for $17.00 and available in Men's Small to XXL sizes. In Bayside frontman Anthony Raneri's own words, "I think that it's human nature to want to help those in need. We are lucky enough to have a platform that we can use to help."
It is relatively common to find bands and solo artists throughout punk, pop-punk and alternative rock music who strongly support the LGBT community. They understand that many of their fans are young members of the queer nation who are not only struggling with finding their footing with their sexuality but also having to deal with family and friends who reject them because of it. These teens and young adults find a safe haven in this part of the music world along with other fans and musicians who do not "fit" into societal norms. Raneri says it best, "Our brand of music has always spoken to the kids who are lost or haven't found themselves yet. Working with the Human Rights Campaign gives us the opportunity to not only support the people who have always supported us but to help the faces that we see at our shows everyday."
Bayside has been playing the Warheads/Journeys stage on the 20th Anniversary Vans Warped Tour this year. They are featuring songs from, Cult, the sixth studio album of their 15 year career. It is their first Hopeless Records release. The tour finishes its run on August 3rd in Denver, CO. After a break, the band will do a European tour starting the end of October.
The Human Resource Campaign is the largest civil rights organization focusing on LGBT rights. It's public engagement project, "Equality Rocks" features prominent musicians who support marriage equality.
