By Markos Papadatos     Aug 8, 2014 in Music
Country duo American Young opened up about their latest single "Wasn't Gonna Drink Tonight," and they premiere their lyric video for the song exclusively on Digital Journal.
American Young is comprised of Kristy Osmunson and Jon Stone and they are signed to Curb Records. Their songs have been recorded by such artists as Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton and Lee Brice; moreover, their songs have appeared on albums that have exceeded five million in sales. "It's amazing to be on Curb Records. Mike Curb is a really incredible human being and he has high standards for the music business, and Jon and I are the same type of people and we make music out of love," Osmunson said.
Regarding their new single "Wasn't Gonna Drink Tonight," Stone remarked, "I wrote it with Billy Montana and Lee Brice a couple of years ago, and it turned into what it is."
They are songwriters, producers and true entertainers. Country Weekly listed them on their "Ones To Watch" list in 2014, and they have also been featured in Guy Gilchrist's classic cartoon, "Nancy."
Their debut single "Love is War" was a Top 45 hit on the country charts and it has been featured in over 1,500 coffee shops, restaurants and wineries. "That was over a year ago, and that was awesome. We were blown away. It was very exciting," Osmunson said.
Stone noted that he loves the relatability and the stories of country music. "Sonically, country music is great American music and I love that," he said.
On July 3, 2014, they played a show at the Pennysaver Amphitheater in Farmingville, New York, for the second consecutive year in a row, as part of "The Fest," along with such country acts as Brantley Gilbert, Thomas Rhett, Tyler Farr, Leah Turner and Cole Swindell. "It was very overwhelming, in a good way. The crowd was incredible up there. There was so much love there, and it is right around Fourth of July, so it was so much fun," Osmunson said.
The duo is out touring, bringing their music to their fans. "We are really on tour a lot right now, and that has been a really fun experience. We are loving it," they exclaimed. "We love our fans, and they became a very big extended family. We are having so much fun on the road with them."
Stone had nothing but the kindest words for fellow country singers and songwriters Lee Brice and Jerrod Niemann, and all three musicians have co-written many hit songs together such as Niemann's Top 30 hit single "Only God Can Love You More." "We have been really, really close and best friends for over ten years. They are great guys," he said.

They duo of musicians listed Grammy winner Charlie Daniels, country superstar Dolly Parton, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Linda Ronstadt as their dream collaboration choices.
