By Sravanth Verma     Dec 13, 2014 in Music
"American Idol" 2003 winner Ruben Studdard launched a crowd-funding campaign to fund his new Christmas EP and a studio album to be released in 2015.
The 36-year-old R&B singer has set up a page on PledgeMusic and requests his fans to support his latest projects. The EP is a five-song set of Studdard's favorite carols, and the album will be released in October 2015, and will include covers and original songs from the singer.
On his PledgeMusic page, he says, "I’ve truly been blessed with the best fans in the world. From American Idol to Biggest Loser, you guys have been with me the entire way. With that in mind, I want to invite you to be a part of the new releases! You’ll be involved in the entire process with behind the scenes updates of recording, sneak-peek at tracks, inspiration behind the chosen songs, and so much more! "
Studdard's page does not list a target amount, though he says that five percent of all donations beyond this unknown target will go to his Ruben Studdard Foundation that supports children with musical talents.
Donors can choose among a list of exclusives including a 30-minute Skype chat for 100$, a signed microphone for 500$, a cover song of your choice delivered to you for 300$ and a studio hangout for 500$. The campaign is set to end on January 26, but as of December 13, it doesn't seem to have made much headway, and only five percent of the goal has been raised.
Studdard has released six albums since his 2003 Idol crown, including Unconditional Love in February, 2014. In 2013, he returned to reality TV on "The Biggest Loser" a weight-loss show, and dropped 119 pounds by the finale.
