Gamers still holding onto their Xbox 360 will not need to for much longer. Microsoft made the announcement Monday at their annual press conference at E3, starting now for preview members and this fall for everyone else. The list that is available for Xbox preview program members is fairly small at the moment. The process involves a lot of legal formalities and licensing that will be the only hold up for getting games on the list.
Xbox Live members can vote for the games they want added here. Currently, Red Dead Redemption is leading the charge as fans continue to vote.
This announcement has been universally applauded as fans of Xbox 360 games have had to hold onto their old consoles due to a lack of support on the Xbox One. Now Microsoft can truly realize its goal and have the Xbox One be the only console their fans need in the living room.
With the integration of backward compatibility comes the ability to play with your Xbox 360 owning friends while you are on your Xbox One. So there is no need to worry about leaving your friends behind by upgrading to the Xbox One. Your achievements carry over as well, so no, you cannot double up on those achievement points by playing the game again on the Xbox one. Some of the new features for Xbox One will be available to use while you are playing 360 games as well, like screenshots, video captures, and twitch broadcasting.
Gamers are now running low on excuses not to upgrade to the current generation of consoles. With the current consoles hitting their stride and developers beginning to truly tap the potential of this new hardware the future is looking bright for both Microsoft and Sony.
