Video: ‘Mortal Kombat X’ Ermac trailer

The proverbial cat is out of the bag as NetherRealm Studios revealed the addition of Ermac to the cast of the upcoming Mortal Kombat X, which is scheduled to release on April 14th for the last-generation and current-generation consoles.

You can see Ermac in action in the latest trailer for the game, where he has a pre-fight introduction with Sub-Zero, and the one thing that remains canonical is the death of Shao Kahn. Ermac’s moral alignment is unknown at the moment, but there is the big chance that he could remain unwillingly evil or plain neutral.

Ermac’s game play variations are Master of Souls, Mystic, and Spectral.

If you know Ermac’s official history, then it is obvious that the first variation will likely focus on soul-based attacks.

Mortal Kombat fans will be delighted to know that Ermac retains his telekinetic abilities.

Midway, the original studio behind Mortal Kombat, officially introduced Ermac in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as Shao Kahn’s special weapon. Ermac’s original appearance was a palette swap of Scorpion, which made him one of the Lin Kuei clones.

His unique game play style differed from the other masked ninjas.

He was rumored to be in the first Mortal Kombat game, but it was an unsubstantiated rumor.

The name is derived from “ERROR MACRO,” which is also another Mortal Kombat myth.

You have the folks at Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) to thank for putting players on a wild goose chase to find a secret character that never existed.

Ed Boon finally gave in and officially created Ermac because it became a popular urban myth in the world of Mortal Kombat. Ermac’s official story is that he was born from the merging of souls from deceased Outworld warriors.

Ermac faded away after Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, with the latter bringing back Johnny Cage. It is important to note that Johnny Cage was officially killed off before Mortal Kombat 3 to punish Daniel Pessina, the actor that played him in the games back when digitized actors were used.

He returned in Mortal Kombat: Deception as an ally of Kenshi, who was introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

Ermac appears in Mortal Kombat 9 serving under Kahn and remained his loyal servant. He used his telekinesis to rip off Jax’s arms causing him to get cybernetic replacements. Ermac’s ending revealed that King Jerrod, Kitana’s father, is one of the souls residing inside his body.

Look forward to playing as Ermac soon as the game will release on current-generation and last-generation consoles.
