article image'Sunset Overdrive' DLC will be decided by player votes

By Oliver VanDervoort     Nov 25, 2014 in Entertainment
'Sunset Overdrive' was released just over a month ago, and now there's a brand new set of weapons and a boost to multiplayer rewards available with the game's first DLC.
The very first new content pack for Sunset Overdrive has just landed and will only cost gamers $5 (and is free for season pass holders). Joystiq reports that the new content brings four new guns for players to take on the mutant monsters. The Plague Bomb, Rager, Shield Buddy, and the Multi-Lock Rocket Launcher are all being introduced into the game for the first time.
While the DLC content for Sunset Overdrive landing for the first time, there comes another piece of good news for fans of the Xbox One exclusive title. The game's developer, Insomniac Games, announced on Tuesday that it will be allowing the community as a whole to vote on what the next piece of DLC will be. The title is going to be bringing new weapons and costumes over the coming months, and Insomniac wants people to vote on what and when.
The developer announced it would be allowing the votes every second week through the Sunset TV series. The first round of voting will feature Buck National and Floyd costumes, and the winner will be put into the game rather soon. The costumes will also feature prominently in some new DLC and storylines that will be coming at some point in 2015.
Wanting to keep some of the details under its hat, Insomniac hasn't released information on what other Sunset Overdrive DLC will be beyond this first pairing. It doesn't seem likely that gamers will be getting to make big-time decisions, but the fact that they get to make any decisions at all is a nice touch from the developers.
The weapons they brought in this first drop are going to make shooting the monsters that much more fun. Because the title lives in a world where being goofy works, new costumes, and crazy weapons seems to be a pretty good way to keep users engaged. One final touch from Insomniac is that players are also going to be getting a tweak to the online Chaos Squad multiplayer mode. From now until December 2, Overcharge cans drops will come at 27.9 times the normal rate, but the Propain Launcher will also appear more frequently in the Sunset Overdrive game mode.
