With so many television shows being developed that are based on movies and comics, it has been reported that a horror show based on 'Resident Evil' video games is being proposed.
The story was first picked up by Bloody Digest then officially confirmed by Polygon.
Currently the project is titled Arklay (a reference to the Arklay forest from the original game) and will follow Detective James Reinhardt of the Raccoon City Police Department as he investigates a series of bizarre but gruesome murders. During the investigation he will uncover a sinister conspiracy that connects the murders to experiments of the Umbrella Corporation.
The show is being created by Shawn Christopher Lebert, who pitched the project as being influenced by thrillers like the TV adaptation of Hannibal with in the context of the Resident Evil story.
This will not be the only television project based on a video game as both Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott are working on their own television adaptation of the Halo series. Spielberg had previously tried to produce a film adaption of Halo alongside Peter Jackson and with Neill Blomkamp as the director.
News of a Resident Evil inspired TV show comes a week after Capcom officially announced that an HD remastered version of the Gamecube remake is in the works and set to be released in 2015.
Resident Evil was originally released for the PlayStation in 1996 followed by a remake for the Gamecube in 2002. It has been hailed as one of the greatest games for establishing the foundation of the horror survival genre.
