According to Capcom’s sales data, Resident Evil HD has become one of the fastest selling games in both the series and the companies history. However Capcom failed to disclose the exact breakdown of the sale numbers based on platform.
Despite the lack of numbers; Sony confirmed the claim when it revealed that Resident Evil HD was the best selling game in January. The game took the top spot as the most purchased title for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
In a special video message posted online, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi has stated, “It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have enjoyed this new release. The team here at Capcom Japan have worked hard to bring the game to the latest generation of consoles and we are thrilled at this news on its performance.”
Eddie Makuch of GameSpot further noted that these sale numbers may influence Capcom to consider an HD remake of Resident Evil 2. The sequel has been one of the most popular games in the series while fans have been asking for a remake for sometime.
Resident Evil HD was released on January 20 and was highly praised by critics along with fans as a returning to the series roots. The original classic was released for the PlayStation in 1996 and has been hailed as one of the greatest games for establishing the foundation of the horror survival genre.
The game was also highly praised in its review from Digital Journal.
