HD remake of Resident Evil Zero officially announced

Rumors of an HD remake of Resident Evil Zero emerged following the release of Resident Evil HD back in January but the news was officially confirmed by Dengeki Online, a Japanese video game news site. The game will be released sometime in early 2016, most likely in mid-January.

As with the last game, Resident Evil Zero will feature graphics set at 1080p and running at 60fps along with 5.1 surround support, with a choice of playing the game in the classic 4:3 ratio or 16:9 widescreen.

The announcement has been well-met among fans of the series due to the game being a GameCube exclusive when it was originally released. However, many are also disappointed as they were hoping for a remake of Resident Evil 2, often hailed as the best game in the series.

It could be speculated that the decision to re-release another classic Resident Evil game comes after the success of Resident Evil HD. Despite being released in January, the game became one of the best selling digital titles and the fastest-selling game in the series.

Resident Evil Zero was the fifth game in the series and was a prequel that explained the origins of the T-Virus outbreak. Players switch between Rebecca Chambers, a member of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team, and Billy Coen, a military convict, as they try to survive the horrors that lurk in an Umbrella owned train and secret training facility.
