Syfy has released its first teaser trailer for "Z Nation", the upcoming zombie-themed television drama series created by Karl Schaefer.
Z Nation is set to continue what appears to be television viewers' insatiable appetite for all things zombie related.
Joining the ranks of television series such as AMC's mega-popular though increasingly gratuitous The Walking Dead, the BBC's thoughtful In the Flesh and The CW's soon-to-be iZombie, Syfy's take on the zombie theme is a new 13-part horror-thriller series due to air on the channel later in the year.
Originally announced back in April, Z Nation is set three years on from when a "zombie virus" devastated the United States. A group of people have been tasked with transporting the only known survivor from the outbreak three thousand miles from New York to California.
There, the last-functioning viral lab can take and test his blood, its antibodies being the world's last best hope for a vaccine. To complicate matters and, Syfy presumably hopes, give its drama series extra motor, the survivor in question harbors a dark secret that threatens everyone!
Earlier this year, as reported by Zap2It!, Syfy Senior Vice President, Programming, Chris Regina, said:
Z Nation is a unique new journey into the long established zombie genre. Instead of existential despair, the series offers hope that somehow, some way, humanity will not only survive, but triumph. In producing their first ever weekly series, our long-time partners The Asylum have created a different way of telling an iconic story.
Z Nation was created by Karl Schaefer, the writer-producer best known for co-creating the horror/sci-fi series Eerie, Indiana with José Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries).
The series stars Harold Perrineau (Lost), Tom Everett Scott (Southland), DJ Qualls (Legit), Kellita Smith (The First Family), Anastasia Baranova (90210) and Michael Welch (Boys of Abu Ghraib).
