article imageWesteros comes to Toronto with 'Game of Thrones the Exhibition' Special

By Michael Thomas     May 13, 2014 in Entertainment
For the third year in a row, 'Game of Thrones the Exhibition' has arrived in Toronto. This year's exhibit is chock-full of costumes, weapons, props and a very realistic experience with the help of Oculus Rift.
This year, 80 percent of the items in 'Game of Thrones the Exhibition' are new, and the props have been re-arranged in terms of character relationships. One display, for example, highlights the costumes of those in King's Landing, including Tyrion's regular outfit, Margaery's wedding dress, Joffrey's wedding suit and Oberyn Martell's robes. Seeing the costumes on the show is one thing, but up close the amazing detail of the costume designers is plain to see. The roses on Margaery's dress and the lions sewn onto Joffrey's suit are little details you would otherwise miss.
Other costume sets include Bran/Hodor, Arya/The Hound, Melisandre/Stannis/Davos and more.
Costumes aside, there are plenty of props to take a gander at. The section with Daenerys' outfits also includes a broken slave collar, two dragon props, two of the three dragon eggs and more. One glass case highlights a slew of weaponry from the show including Oathkeeper, Brienne's sword; a crystal sword used by white Walkers; Daario's dagger; a shield and spear used by the Unsullied and more.

And then there's the most thrilling part: a simulation of taking the elevator up the Wall to the very top, with the help of noise-cancelling headphones and Oculus Rift VR goggles. Step into the cage and you'll feel like you're suddenly cold and slowly rising up 200 metres. Once you get to the top, you'll have a pretty dizzying experience.
It's fascinating that this exhibit is already in its third year; it's the mark of a new era of television that traveling shows like this are more than just a one-off event.
'Game of Thrones the Exhbition' will be in Toronto at the TIFF Bell Lightbox from May 14-18. After that, it will head to Belfast (June 11-15) and then Vancouver (August 16 - September 1).
Tickets for the Toronto event are sold out, however limited rush tickets may be available each day.
