Watch the powerful trailer for ‘Creed,’ a ‘Rocky’ spinoff

Watch the powerful trailer of Creed, the first tease of the next movie in the Rocky series.

Michael B. Jordan, best known for television roles on Friday Night Lights and the Wire will be the hero for a Rocky movie for the next generation. Jordan plays Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s former nemesis Apollo Creed. Rocky Balboa, the character made iconic by Sylvester Stallone, will presumably mold the young man into a successful boxer.

By introducing Apollo Creed’s son, there are many chances to call back to earlier Rocky films. Apollo Creed played a major figure in the franchise until the character died in the arms of Rocky Balboa (Stallone) in Rocky IV.

Jordan is poised to become Hollywood’s next breakout star. While he has a fan following from his television work, Jordan’s star may rise much higher. Jordan has a starring role in the Fantastic Four, which will be released in August and is expected to be a summer hit.

The question is whether the talented Jordan will be able to bring new life to the Rocky franchise that has spanned 40 years. Will the young Adonis Creed captivate new audiences and allow the series to continue.

Rocky became a phenomenon, which told the story of a boxer from an Italian neighborhood in Philadelphia, but grew into one of the most beloved and acclaimed sports movies ever.

The original Rocky, which was released in 1976, spawned five more movies afterward. The last film, Rocky Balboa, was released in 2006.

Philadelphia still boasts about being the birthplace of Rocky Balboa, despite the fact that he is a fictional character. A statue of Rocky was erected at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which still attracts tourists who scale the museum steps.
