article imageVideo: Vancouver Fringe Festival kicks off Special

By AR Vasquez     Sep 5, 2014 in Entertainment
Vancouver - The 30th annual Vancouver Fringe festival is now in full swing. Vancouver’s best theatre festival is back again from September 4-14 with 10 days of un-censored, un-juried theatre fun.
Digital Journal via Fiction Frenzy TV had the opportunity to interview Jim Sibley who shared exciting things to expect at the Vancouver Fringe Festival this year. The Fringe kicked off on opening night with a 30th Birthday Bash which included a fantastic concert featuring Seattle bluegrass rockers, The Cave Singers and the local opening act The Nautical Miles.
DJ: Where can people find the Vancouver Fringe Festival?
Jim Sibley: This years festival is centred on Granville Island, but has venues all across the city including the Clutch, the Havanna, and Firehall and many more.
DJ: What can attendees expect to see this year?
Jim Sibley: 91 different shows and hundreds of performances over the 10 days.
DJ: Why are you so excited about the Fringe Festival?
Jim Sibley: I see a lot of theatre and when I recall extraordinary theatre, it always has been a FRINGE show. Where else can you see such great stuff for just $14 a show….nowhere but at the FRINGE.
DJ: Explain to us what the Fringe is?
Jim Sibley: The Fringe provides this wonderful incubator for new artists and seasoned veterans. The FRINGE gives artists a wonderful place to develop edgier shows that might not be welcomed in more mainstream theatre.
DJ: Why is the Fringe important?
Jim Sibley: I often get asked “why is the Fringe important?” It's important because it provides an important stepping stone for emerging artists. Where else will someone do your advertising, tickets sales, production, and give you 100% of the box office? Answer is nowhere but the FRINGE.
If you are or plan to be in the Vancouver Lower mainland, come watch great live theatre.
