It doesn't look good for the residents of Bon Temps, Louisiana, where humans and vampires clash in what appears to be a bitter end in the final season of the HBO thriller True Blood.
According to a trailer unleashed by HBO on Sunday, the 10 episodes that will comprise the seventh season which concludes the series will be bloodier than ever. In a prepared statement, HBO president Michael Lombardo declared that followers would enjoy "a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show."
The series, which stars Canadian Oscar-winning actress Anna Paquin, revolves around an uneasy relationship between residents of Bon Temps and vampires whose desire for human blood has been tempered by a synthetic substitute, although one camp of fangsters still revels in the real thing.
Fast forward to the forthcoming season, which premieres June 22. A hepatitis V virus has left many of the town's citizens dead, the federal government balks at providing aid, survivors are fighting each other tooth and nail and rabid vampires are sucking the life out of everyone else.
As Paquin's character Sookie Stackhouse remarks in the trailer, "There's no one left."
That might make for one heck of a nail in the coffin of the Emmy-winning series.
