Hajime Isayama’s ongoing manga series Attack on Titan aka Shingeki no Kyojin has become a sensation since its anime series adaptation, but there are plans for a live-action film adaptation. There are two films planned, where the first one will hit theaters across Japan on August 1st and the second film will hit theaters across the country on September 19th.
The first trailer, a 30-second, teaser has been streamed for the first movie and you can see a glimpse of the Colossal Titan. If you are wondering about the smoke, that is the heat that emits from the Titans’ bodies.
Expect the most heat to emit from the Colossal Titan because it is the tallest one so far, but that’s a different story if you have kept up with the manga.
Isayama worked closely with the film and contributed to character creation.
The script is done by Yuusuke Watanabe, who worked on Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. That movie will be followed up by Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F.
There are contrasts between the manga and the film in terms of characters. Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, and Hanji are present in the film. Other characters in the manga like Annie Leonhart are not present, which is likely due to the film having an all-Japanese cast.
The original manga story likely takes place somewhere in Germany.
Attack on Titan takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where humanity is nearly extinct because of the cannibalistic Titans. 100 years have passed since the Titans mysterious vanish, but they return right after and terrorize humanity again.
Eren witnesses his mother die at the hands of a Titan and vows revenge, which motivates him to join the Survey Corps.
