Neon Genesis Evangelion fans can check out a 3D CGI animated short film titled Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential), which was made specifically to show at the Japan Animator Expo (JAX).
This short seemingly takes place in either a different time setting or an alternate universe.
Some mysterious organization is underground beneath the ruins of one of the cities as it working on an experimental EVA unit, which is called “Another Number – Unit Null.” Things are casual, but Unit Null goes berserk and escapes from the facility.
Unit Null wreaks havoc across the ruins of what seems to be Tokyo.
It is unknown what organization is behind Unit Null’s development and it does not seem like that N.E.R.V was involved in the production. If you can notice, there N.E.R.V logo is not present in the animated short.
The organization has not given any reason for Unit Null’s development.
Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential) is a collaborative work between Shinji Aramaki and Atsushi Takeuchi, respectively, the director and CGI director.
Aramaki is known for directing Appleseed, Appleseed Ex Machina, Appleseed Alpha, Starship Troopers: Invasion, and Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
Takeuchi’s credits include Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Panzer Dragoon, Xenogears, Reideen, Appleseed XIII, Halo Legends, and Armitage III.
Neon Genesis Evangelion originally ran from 1995 until 1996 for 26 episodes.
The anime takes place in 2015, which is actually this year, where Earth is under siege by mysterious outer space beings known as Angels that caused the “Second Impact” in 2000. Earth’s final hope lies in the hands of teenagers born after the “Second Impact,” with the ability to pilot bio-mechas known as EVAs.
