The new Star Wars film is set to hit the big screen and if all indications are correct, this should become the biggest money making movie of all-time, but with several big releases scheduled for 2016, box office records could be smashed.
From DC Comics to family entertainment, here's a look at the 10 most anticipated releases for next year and when fans can expect to see them on the big screen.
February 12 is the first big release as the long awaited Deadpool hits the silver screen. Fans have waited six years to see Ryan Reynolds reprise this role and for the first time this intriguing character will be the featured star. This movie might not hit the mark with the older generation, but for fans of the anti-super hero, it marks a must-see event and the earliest of the big blockbusters to hit the box office.
Fans of Captain America are in for a big treat when Civil War hits the market in the first week of May. This sequel is set to take this third installment to new heights with several newcomers, including Black Panther and Spider-Man joining the action.
Batman v. Superman has DC Comics bringing two heavyweights together in a move that could challenge for the biggest money making movie of 2016. With appearances from Wonder Woman and Aquaman, not to mention Ben Affleck making his debut as the Dark Knight, fans won't need to wait long as this movie will hit the public on March 25.
Kids won't be left hanging next year as Finding Dory will bring some joy over the summer. Finding Nemo was a huge success in 2003 and this spin-off is expected to challenge Frozen as the highest grossing animated film of all-time. Set for release in June, this family friendly movie should be a nice change of pace to the high-paced super hero films of 2016.
May 27 will have X-Men Apocalypse the latest in the series from Marvel Comics hit the screen. With a strong group of loyal followers, it appears that another $700 million plus in ticket sales will keep this franchise moving onward and upwards for the foreseeable future.
J.K. Rowling has created Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a spin-off of Harry Potter, this movie has created a buzz with fans of the young wizard and has hopes of breaking the $1 billion barrier. Set for release in late November, movie goers will have to wait in anticipation, but if it's like any of her other work, it shouldn't disappoint.
Looking for adventure? Gods of Egypt is expected to deliver. With a release date in February, action fans will get an early start to the year and with Gerard Butler playing an evil lord, this film has some big name appeal.
A number of summer hits are expected to bring in lots of money, including Suicide Squad with Will Smith and Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson. Star Trek fans won't be left out as the franchise is set to release its latest version in July.
