Actor Tom Hardy is to feature in a BBC One period drama about the East India Company. The TV production will be directed by Sir Ridley Scott.
The new series is to be called Taboo, and it will be in eight parts. According to Variety, Hardy will play a rogue adventurer who sets out to build a shipping empire, pitting him against the East India Company. The series will take place in 1813.
Tom Hardy (born Edward Thomas Hardy) is an English actor. Some of key movie role have been Star Trek: Nemesis, RocknRolla, Bronson, Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, This Means War, The Dark Knight Rises, and Inception. Sir Ridley Scott is an English film director and producer. He has directed such movies as Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, Robin Hood, and Prometheus.
Discussing the new series with Deadline, Tom Hardy calls it a “flagship British drama for this generation.” It’s a “hybrid of orthodox and unconventional storytelling, packed with darkness and spirited characters.”
