HBO has now released a trailer for “The Normal Heart”, its upcoming film from Ryan Murphy, which is based on the well-known play by Larry Kramer.
Ryan Murphy – best known as the creator/co-creator of a number of US TV series such as Nip/Tuck, Glee and American Horror Story – is responsible for the film adaptation of Larry Kramer’s iconic autobiographical play.
Set in New York, The Normal Heart chronicles the rise of AIDS between 1981 and 1984, as seen through the eyes of the writer and activist Ned Weeks, a gay Jewish-American man who founded a prominent HIV advocacy group.
Initially, the play achieved a successful Off-Broadway production at the Joseph Papp Public Theater, in 1985. The play was later revived in Los Angeles and London, and again Off-Broadway, in 2004. In 2011, the play received its Broadway debut.
The movie’s cast includes Matt Bomer (White Collar), Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Julia Roberts (August: Osage County) and Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher).
The Normal Heart premieres in the US, on the HBO channel, on May 25.
