Fox has released the first official trailer for "The Maze Runner", the film based on James Dashner's novel of the same name, which is due for release September 19, 2014.
Described as a "science-fiction mystery drama thriller," The Maze Runner has been adapted for the cinema by Noah Oppenheim and is directed by Wes Ball.
It stars Dylan O'Brien (Teen Wolf ) as Thomas, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones ) as Newt, Kaya Scodelario (Skins ) as Teresa and Will Poulter (Son of Rambow ) as Gally.
According to the official movie synopsis, "When Thomas wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as 'W.C.K.D.'. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape."
Last October, Collider reported that Fox had already acquired the film rights to Dashner's second book, The Scorch Trials. The screenplay for the second movie will be handled by T.S. Nowlin, with supervision from Ball; the assumption being that he will return to the director's chair, too.
