‘The Little Prince’ U.S. release date pulled by Paramount

Those looking forward to watching The Little Prince March 18 will unfortunately have to wait a little while longer.

In a peculiar move, Paramount Pictures has reneged on distributing The Little Prince in the United States. This decision comes a mere week before the movie was scheduled to run in theatres. Sources are mum on why the film was dropped, but director Mark Osborne has declared on the record that The Little Prince will see a U.S. release date. Fortunately, the movie is still on track to open on March 18 within Canada:

“Many thanks to everyone for the outpouring of love and support in these strange times. … As it turns out, the much anticipated U.S. release of this special and unique film will have to be anticipated just a little bit more. … All I can say is #thelittleprince will in fact be released by another distributor later this year. … Until then, head to Canada! The film opens there in wide release this weekend!”

The Little Prince is a CGI/stop-motion hybrid produced by Laika Studios (of Coraline fame). The movie is based on the 1940s French children’s book of the same name. The Little Prince currently has a “Certified Fresh” 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has won the Cesar Award for “Best Animated Film.”
