Taylor Swift is shaken up over mom’s cancer

Superstar singer Taylor Swift is adored by her fans because unlike most celebrities, she shares much of her personal issues with them. The Swift family suffered an emotional blow when Taylor’s mom was diagnosed with cancer. In a blog post, the pop star stated, “The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.”

Swift took the time to remind everyone to urge their parents to see a doctor for a checkup. She went on to say that they sometimes are caught up in daily life issues and tending to their children. Finding the time to see a doctor is a daunting task and most parents put their own best interests last.

Last Christmas, Taylor asked her mom for the gift of getting herself screened for any health issues “just to ease some worries of mine.” The 57-year-old mom, Andrea Finlay, said that she felt fine, but she honored the request just to get her daughter and son off her case.

Trending on Twitter Thursday was “#PrayForMamaSwift” and it was re-tweeted over 20,000 times. Thousands also re-tweeted, “There’s something in your eyes that says we can beat this” – uplifting words from Taylor’s 2008 hit “Change.”

Taylor took the time to thank her fans for the overwhelming love and well wishes sent her way and said this, “Thank you for caring about my family so much… I hope and pray that you never get news like this.”
