Director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘Birdman’ unveiled a short preview and eye-catching poster for the new film starring Michael Keaton.
Scored to a slowed-down version of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," the Birdman trailer begins with a wild-haired Keaton madly rushing to the stage and uttering the words, “How did we end up here, in this dump?” He’s later shown jumping off buildings, triggering explosions and parading down the street in his underwear.
The Fox Searchlight film is a dark comedy about an actor who once portrayed an iconic superhero and is now struggling to mount a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story. However, as opening night approaches his ego may stand in the way of his latest opportunity to reclaim his past glory.
The irony should not be lost that a former Batman is the movie’s leading man, but Keaton is not exactly a forgotten actor. In fact, his proficiency in playing madmen is one of the picture’s appeals. That, and what appears to be an all-out brawl with a half-naked Edward Norton.
