Spooks: The Greater Good is based on the British spy drama that ran for 10 seasons, from 2002 and 2011. As it is known in the US as
MI5, presumably, the movie will be renamed
MI5: The Greater Good for its North American release — although that hasn’t yet been confirmed.
The photograph shows Kit Harrington running across a London rooftop, gun in hand, in a very thriller-y Jack Bauer-
24–Jason Bourne kind of way.
Kit Harrington, 27, is best known for playing Jon Snow in George R. R. Martin’s TV series
Game of Thrones. Yesterday, he was in Cannes to promote his new film,
How to Train Your Dragon 2, an animated tale from director, in which he provides the voice of Eret, Son of Eret. Cate Blanchet (
Hanna) and Jay Baruchel (
RoboCop) also star.
Back to
Spooks, and news of the spin-off movie was
first announced in late 2013.
Harrington is joined in the cast for the film by Peter Firth as Harry Pearce, the part he played throughout the tenure of the TV series.
Jennifer Ehle (
Fifty Shades of Grey) and Tuppence Middleton (
Jupiter Ascending) are also on board. Harrington’s role is as Will Crombie, Harry’s protégé.
Earlier this year, Harrington was starred in the 3D-movie pyrotechnic extravaganza,
Pompeii, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson (
Resident Evil 6). Since
Spooks /
MI5 ended, Firth, meanwhile, has gone on to appear in a number of dramas, including
Mayday,
World Without End and
Undeniable.
