article imageThe Onion launches social site ClickHole

ClickHole is a new project from creators at the Onion. Their goal is to create a massive collection of terrible viral media and also make fun of other people who are doing so.
"We strive to make sure that all of our content panders to and misleads our readers just enough to make it go viral." according to a page on ClickHole. One comedy site is not enough for those at the Onion so they are making another comedy site that gathers worthless facts for you. They are most likely trying to directly parody sites like Cracked and also BuzzFeed.
"ClickHole prefers to think of you and every other person on earth as nothing more than an empty vessel existing purely to share content with other empty vessels." their mission statement goes on to point out. Sounds about right as to how some sites handle their content.
Whether they are going to actually push forward with this or if it is just a grand joke the ClickHole launch is rather interesting. At the very least it should be amusing to ridicule sites that pump out content with no regard for quality. They have done projects like this before with mixed success. It does fit well with their smarmy, cynical humor that is in every report.
