Iconic sketch-comedy series Saturday Night Live has rolled out plans to celebrate 40 years of entertainment with a special three-hour episode running Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015.
According to an NBC release on Saturday, the show will feature current and past performers including the five surviving members of the original cast when the program made its debut Oct. 11, 1975.
"Saturday Night Live is an institution unlike anything else in television history," said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. "This special is just one of the many ways we plan to celebrate SNL's historic 40th season next year."
The entire lineup hasn't been totally confirmed although the release mentioned past members who have since gone on to prosperous careers including Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Jimmy Fallon, and Seth Meyers.
For the past four decades the show, still running strong and still broadcasting from Studio 8H in New York City's Rockefeller Centre, has won 40 Emmy Awards, the most for any program in TV history. It has also earned 171 Emmy nominations, two Peabody honors and was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame by the National Association of Broadcasters.
