article imageRobert Downey Jr says appearing in Doctor Who is possible

In news that’s got “Doctor Who” fans buzzing, Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr has said anything is possible in relation to him appearing in a future episode of the BBC’s flagship science-fiction television drama series.
As already reported on Digital Journal by Sarah Gopal, Downey Jr has been doing the rounds to promote his new upcoming drama, The Judge. During which he appeared to contradict himself on whether or not there would be an Iron Man 4 film.
However, to the delight of Sherlock fans, the actor — well known for playing Iron Man in three movies and Sherlock Holmes in two — yesterday said he was envious of Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Holmes in the modern interpretation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation from Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat.
But what’s exciting Doctor Who fans even more than that is what he said in reply to a question posed to him during a Reddit Ask Me session Downey Jr took part in.
Reddit user Tsukeo asked him: “Would you ever play in Doctor Who if you got the opportunity?”
To which, Downey Jr replied: “It's funny you'd bring that up. A writer asked me to watch a particular episode about a month ago, in hopes of helping us break story on a project. An incredible series. Anything's possible.”
Typical responses to that included the following:
vitey15: “Oh sweet baby Jesus.”
drakebaylor: “I'm perspiring.”
LittleMissBitchFace: “I think I would nerdgasm all over that episode.”
sleepyhearts: “I think the world would explode if you were to show up in Doctor Who.”
Robert Downey Jr played the lead in two Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes films: Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011); and has, to date, played the Marvel superhero Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man) in film Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 (2010), Marvel's The Avengers (2012), Iron Man Three (2013) and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
Doctor Who, starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, continues on Saturdays throughout October; and will return in December for a Christmas Day special, before a new season enters production in early 2015.
