Filming of new episodes of “Ripper Street” is now well underway, with many of the show’s original cast returning for Season 3 of the Victorian-set crime drama.
Matthew Macfadyen (MI5), MyAnna Buring (White Heat), Jerome Flynn (Soldier, Soldier) and Adam Rothenberg (The Dish and the Spoon) are all reprising their roles of, respectively, Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, Long Susan, Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake and Captain Homer Jackson.
Production of Ripper Street is now based in the UK, with filming already underway in Manchester, England. Previously, the show was based Eire, with filming largely taking place in Dublin.
Season 1 of Ripper Street was first broadcast from December 2012; with Season 2 beginning in October 2013. Both are being made available by Amazon Prime Instant Video. Season 1 is currently available to stream, while Season 2 will launch on June 2.
Season 3
As fans of the drama already know, initially, chances of a third season were dashed when the BBC axed the show, despite it’s fairly healthy viewing figures.

A fan-organised campaign to have it reinstated quickly led to Ripper Street being picked up by Amazon Prime Instant Video, who are now co-financing the series along with the BBC, BBC America, BBC Worldwide, Lookout Point and Tiger Aspect.
As reported earlier by Digital Spy, Ripper Street creator and showrunner Richard Warlow is “grateful to [them] for all their tireless efforts to make this extraordinary deal possible and for allowing these eight new stories to be told,” though he said it was a day “many of us thought we’d never see.”
As part of the deal with Amazon, the new episodes will have their first airing exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video this coming autumn. Transmission on BBC One will follow “a few months later.”
From Manchester, the Season 3 shoot moves on to Loughborough in Leicestershire then to its traditional base in Dublin.
Of it, Amazon’s Tim Leslie told Digital Spy that the show “is set to be grittier and more exciting than ever and we can’t wait to bring it to our customers first this autumn.”

Meanwhile, Macfadyen recently thanked both the fans of the series — “who wanted more” — and “our wonderful writers and producers, for giving us the most thoroughly brilliant, gripping and heart-rending episodes.”
Such episodes have included Thomas Martin and Tony Finlay’s “Threads of Silk and Gold,” the 2013 episode that featured relative TV newcomers Jassa Ahluwalia and Alfie Stewart, who gave moving performances as Vincent Featherwell and David Goodbody.
Well-known actors to have guest-starred in the show previously include Lucy Cohu (Murderland), David Dawson (The Duchess of Malfi), Anton Lesser (The Hour), Paul McGann (The Night of the Doctor) and Joseph Mawle (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).
