Review: ‘Yona of the Dawn’ EP 24 brings series to an end

Episode 24 of Yona of the Dawn, titled “From Now On,” is currently streaming on FUNimation, Crunchyroll, and Hulu for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode in six days on March 31st.

Yona is finally joined by Jaeha, the Green Dragon.

It means that they need to locate the Yellow Dragon, who is the final person Yona needs to locate. This episode proves that Yona has grown physically, mentally, and spiritually since the events that transpired after her father’s assassination.

She is learning to do things on her own such as skinning a dead animal.

Things get funny when a mysterious newcomer invites himself over. I laughed when his stomach was growling, but acted jovial and nonchalant about it.

It was funny when Shin-Ha, Jaeha, and Gi-Ja huddled together and suspected that the weary traveler was the Yellow Dragon. I laughed when the three of them suspected that it was the case, but acted nonchalant about it as well.

The fact that it was a nonchalant situation made the whole thing funny.

Jeno, the Yellow Dragon, added to the humor by acting as if it was no big deal at all.

I am loving Jeno because his carefree and relaxed attitude adds the necessary contrast to the group. Jae-Ha is relaxed, but not to the extent that Jeno is.

I busted into laughter when Jeno talked about the power of having a tough body only to get punched out by Hak, who felt like being a jerk and “testing” the theory out. This leads me to believe that Jeno is the comic relief of the group.

Jeno proves to be initially underwhelming by showing that he’s physically weak.

I guess Jeno cannot bring all the fun, where the group has its reunion with Ik-Su. I was thinking that somebody busted into his home when they discovered him barely alive, but I was shocked when Ik-Su revealed that he was pretty f—ked without Yun around.

Ik-Su has proven unable to support himself without Yun, which was funny to watch.

This reinforces Yun’s role as the group’s “den mother.” If they shared an apartment complex, then Yun would be the residential adviser. In layman speak, the group would be f—ked without Yun’s medical and culinary abilities.

Jeno shocks everybody by having a serious moment by showing his perceptiveness of the situation and bluntly asks Yona on what she ultimately wants to do. He makes a valid point because they have simply been running and hiding until they decided to overthrow Kumji, which led to his exile from Awa.

It is a major choice because the group is between a rock and a hard spot.

Overthrowing Soo-Won, the current king, is easier being said than it is being done. Soo-Won has the kingdom’s military at his disposal, but the kingdom celebrates him because he is a just ruler. Yona learned that her father’s policies placed the country in much pain.

It is difficult for Hak, too, because he was good friends with Soo-Won.

The entire situation is complex, where Yona would not have been in this predicament if her father was not a weak leader. It is not wrong to wish for peace, but King Il’s policies led to “false peace.” There is also the situation on the circumstances behind the death of Soo-Won’s father, too, which also acted as a catalyst for King Il’s assassination.

Yona of the Dawn ends on a close that leaves an opening for a possible second season. I hope there is a second season in the making because I do not want to see the series itself to end on that note.
