article imageReview: Whoopi Goldberg at her comedic best at The Paramount Special

By Markos Papadatos     Apr 27, 2014 in Entertainment
Huntington - Multi-award-winning entertainer and television co-host from "The View" Whoopi Goldberg performed her comedy at The Paramount in Huntington, New York on April 26.
Throughout her career in the entertainment industry, which exceeds three decades, she is one of the very few entertainers that has won an Academy Award, Tony, Emmy and a Grammy for her work.
She commenced her comedic set by noting that she uses language the way she likes it, so if anybody had any issues with that or was offended, now would be the time for them to get out. Fortunately for her, the audience did not mind and they stayed for the remainder of her show.
Goldberg revealed her addiction for such Facebook games as FarmVille and Candy Crush, as well as the fact that she does not drink, but she does have her limits.
Other topics she made jokes about included her use of weed in the past, making love in her youth (and how she feels "dry" now), botox, becoming a grandmother at an early age, being a fan of horror movies, gay marriage and politics. "If you have an issue with gay marriage, don't marry a gay person," she said.
Goldberg does not care if one is Republic or Democrat, and even made fun of former Vice President Republican nominee Sarah Palin about how she could see Russia from her backyard, which was "bizarre" for her and subsequently shared that she is worried about Palin's Republican party.
She noted her fondness for the new Pope, and she stated that she reached a point in her life where she does not remember a lot of things, becoming "old." An audience member called her "vintage," but in the question and answer session that followed her comedy routine, clarified that it was meant in a good way, referring to her as a "classic."
Goldberg underscored her hatred for cell phones and computers and finds it disturbing that nowadays people take them with them into the bathroom. After dropping her cell phone in the toilet bowl on multiple occasions, she has come to the realization that iPhones do not float.
The funniest segment in her comedic set involved her talking about her painful Brazilian waxing experience, which was done on the anterior and posterior side of her body, which she compared to piranhas biting her and then lighting gasoline on fire on top of that.
"Whoopi Goldberg was hilarious tonight at The Paramount. I laughed so hard to the point where I was in tears," stated attendee Barbara Goldsmith.
The Verdict
Overall, Whoopi Goldberg's comedic skills at The Paramount were quite impressive and her dialogue was extremely witty. Although she may have been vituperative and unfiltered at times, Goldberg's show was authentic and clever and it was well-received by the Long Island audience and she got her point across at all times. She garnered an A rating.
