article imageReview: AMC’s ‘Preacher’— Trailer

By Adam Mock     Nov 8, 2015 in Entertainment
After the successful transition of comic property ‘The Walking Dead’ to television, AMC brings another cult favorite to life with ‘Preacher.'
Never let it be said that comic books are only for kids. Especially, if the comic in question is Preacher, by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. A series known for not pulling any punches in the adult content department, the property seems to be right in AMC’s wheelhouse. With past shows such as Breaking Bad and the two Walking Dead series pushing the envelope of "No Holds Barred" storytelling, with graphic imagery and language, the trailer for Preacher looks as though it will fit in nicely with their fan base.

Not having been too familiar with the comics, research of source material was in order. What came to light was an interesting storyline, which, compared to what was offered up in the trailer, would be tough to discuss without giving away accidental spoilers in the process. So, who better to give a plot synopsis than AMC themselves:
Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas Town inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse sets out on a journey to, literally, find God, joined by his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun).
The trailer is not quite as in-depth with its explanation, but still entices the viewer to watch. Simmering to a boil, the preview builds in a way which is both stoic and feirce, introducing us to Jesse as he talks to a troubled boy in his congregation. What follows is a montage of scenes unveiling what kind of world we are in for. Tense and gritty, the clips are more than compelling, drawing you in from shot one.
Produced by both the creators of the comic, as well as Seth Rogen and his crew, Preacher has an interesting pedigree from the start. Coupled with the stellar track record over at AMC, this show is sure to be a hit with audiences. Not for the squeamish, Preacher looks to be another quality program from the network.
Premiering on AMC in 2016, enjoy the trailer for Preacher.
