Six days ahead of the advertised "Biggest fight of the summer," six days ahead of the second biggest PPV of the year for WWE, if there was a message that was loud & clear for the WWE universe, it was what is old is...never really that old!
Hulk Hogan — many argue him to be the biggest star the company ever produced — celebrated his 61st birthday in a grand celebration which saw many of his old contemporaries partake in. The closing segment saw many legends grace the ring around The Hulkster, including Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, Paul Orndorff, Kevin Nash & Scot Hall. Nash even got the crowd singing Happy birthday to the "Immortal one" when WWE decided to put brakes on the nostalgia show, as Brock Lesnar interrupted the celebration and brought the focus right back in to the present — the main event between Lesnar & Cena.
In what was one of the better build-up shows to a major PPV for the WWE, all the angles gained momentum on this edition of Monday Night RAW. The aforementioned main-event received a terrific boost courtesy of a creative rap promo from a the best mic man in the business right now, Paul Heyman. Cena later in the show responded with a passionate promo of his own and this match truly has a big-match feel to it.
The Stephanie Mcmahon – Brie Bella feud had some more drama added to it as Stephanie tricked Brie into assaulting another female, who claimed to be having an affair with her husband Daniel Bryan, which got her arrested by the local authorities. While not the greatest of intensity was added to the feud, the turn of events sure did add more intrigue as to how the payoff at Summerslam will turn out to be.
Randy Orton & Roman Reigns both looked strong in their wins against Sheamus and Rybaxel respectively. But the best match of the night came from the former teammates Cesaro & Jack Swagger. In a back & forth affair, Swagger prevailed and Cesaro looked strong in defeat.
Seth Rollins beat RVD this week and Heath Slater notched up another win via a count-out, over Dolph Ziggler. Chris Jericho & Bray Wyatt exchanged words, where Jericho promised to show a side of his to the ‘eater of the worlds’ that he hasn’t seen before.
