article imageReview: Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden kick off 26-city tour Special

By Belinda Ware     Jul 21, 2014 in Entertainment
Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden have joined forces for their first joint indie rock tour with their first concert of the series this week at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, the platform for retro indie rock has emerged to center stage with two power groups of the underground scene moving up to super headliners with their fans responding in synchronicity in full excitement and attendance. Loyal fans from the inception of their debut on the rock scene came out in full force along with new fans filling Planet Hollywood to hear the seasoned musical fusion that NIN and Soundgarden delivered in top form on their high energy tour launch.
Soundgarden took to the stage opening with hits from their cd release, Superunknown, along with songs from their hit release, “Badmotorfinger,” representing their movement from indie grunge to mainstream rock. They performed "Searching With My Good Eye Closed," in anticipation and to the delight of fans. They won the crowd over performing back to back tracks from their hit cd releases, Superunknown and King Animal.
As an opening act, Soundgarden’s solid and unique sound have proven their staying power on the music scene from their record breaking performance in the 90s opening for Guns N' Roses to now working their current tour with Nine Inch Nails.
In reference to successes in the industry, Trent Reznor is one of the few lead singers in rock and roll to secure success with a hit band such as NIN along with an Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Social Network — an award that he shared with his collaborator Atticus Ross. He also secured a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Reznor stepping center stage with NIN, now on a whirlwind tour with Soundgarden, makes life even more sweet for Reznor.
When it comes to the music both NIN and Soundgarden have created, it continues to resonate as current in the minds of attendees who let their support be known. The resurgence of their music is evidence of a reawakening to the power of indie rock now showing its timeless marketability to both their loyal fan bases as well as new generations who stayed from start to finish of the kickoff tour date in Las Vegas.
The 26-city tour is set to continue throughout the summer where they will perform tonight in Morrison, Co continuing on making stops in cities throughout the USA and Canada including Toronto, Canada on July 27 and Atlanta, Georgia on August 8.
