This was a part of his “Don’t Take It Personal” tour, and it was hosted by the “Queen of Comedy” Sommore, who also served as his witty opening act. It included follow-up acts from such noteworthy comics as Tony Rock and Earthquake, all of which were well-received by “The Big Apple” public.
As Epps took the stage, he was greeted with a warm standing ovation. He began his set by making fun of Ice-T on Law & Order and how he is not a good actor, especially since they only give him two or three lines on the show.
He gave a shout out to Brooklyn, and noted how that whole borough needs to be remodeled. Lately, Epps revealed that he is being called “Uncle Mike” by people, yet he underscored that he “ain’t that old yet,” and that he has been a love interest for such female dignitaries as Patti LaBelle and the late Margaret Thatcher.
Epps poked fun at a audience member with a hood on, and he subsequently named him “Frosty the Snowman” for his attire, which did not go well with the theatergoer, who flipped him the bird swiftly afterwards.
He shared that while he was in school, he was classified as a special education student, where he wouldn’t change classes unlike his fellow friends. He would stay in the same class the entire day, and just change books from Arithmetic to Social Studies.
Epps did a neat impersonation of Bill Cosby, and he interacted well with an audience member that “snuck in” Doritos at Madison Square Garden, and noted that she did it at the right time, especially since he was “looking for the next joke.” He also made a reference to the recent controversy at the Academy Awards due to race, and shared that if he were in their shoes, he would not be interested in that Oscar trophy, he would instead want a monetary reward.
He has a strong disdain towards TMZ and how they always catch him in the airport. He poked fun of his mother for being a single mother and how she would also have a different boyfriend all of time, the majority of which weren’t rich.
Epps noted that it was an honor to work with the legendary Whitney Houston in his life, as well as the late Bernie Mac. He concluded by sharing his love for New York, and how New Yorkers have supported him throughout his whole career, which spans over 20 years since his Def Comedy Jam days.
