article imageReview: 'Log Horizon 2' EP 21 has a very bittersweet feel to everything

By Can Tran     Mar 1, 2015 in Entertainment
The latest episode of "Log Horizon 2" forces Shiroe to deal with a compounded problem that stems from adventurers' apathy.
Episode 21 of Log Horizon 2, titled “The Skylarks Take Flight,” is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Hulu for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on March 7th.
It was a depressing start when the young members of Log Horizon were unable to save the town from the wyverns' destruction. This is one of those feelings of depression that you go through when you put everything into something only to fail at the end.
Of course it isn't the end of the world, but it is the end for the unfortunate victims that were unable to escape the destruction.
The silver lining in the clouds, explained by Rundel, is that the city can easily rebuild because it is a crucial travel stop and that the citizens are used to the destruction. It gets to the point where the People of the Land are used to their towns and homes being destroyed that they can rebuild them stronger than they were before.
I laughed at how Log Horizon was f—ked when it comes to making meals because Nyanta stepped out.
Tetra's reply was cute because “she” insists that idols are not allowed to make anything unless they are sweets.

This episode ultimately centers on a threat that Shiroe had never really gave much thought: adventurers who still cannot adapt to living in Elder Tale. The Odyssey Knights are prime examples because dying is the only way to can relive memories of the old world, which shocked and horrified Tohya in the 19th episode of Log Horizon 2.
It also brings up the point that being trapped in Elder Tale could be Heaven or Hell for the adventurers depending on how they cope. This was Heaven for Tohya because he could walk again, but was Hell for many other adventurers.
I found this problem interesting because Shiroe didn't think about it, which means the Round Table is ineffective in responding. Shiroe's job is more difficult because Crusty is not around since he vanished when item flavor text came to life.
Now Akihabara has to deal with a new threat, Genius of Marriage, that can seduce women by charm.

I broke into laughter when the Genius of Marriage asked Souji to be his bride when he comes to the rescue.

The next scene cracked me up when the others decided to gang up on the Genius of Marriage for asking Souji that question. I guess that is Souji's fan club taking offense to the notion that he is either a girl or gay.
Things are serious for the younger members that plan on returning to Akihabara because the see firsthand that the People of the Land that they are useless. I can see why they have that perception as it is on the part of the Odyssey Knights because they never cared about protecting people in the first place as Tohya learned.

This compounds the big problem that there are adventurers that will never adapt to Elder Tale.
