Episode 17 of Log Horizon 2, titled “Odyssey Knights,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for paid members. Free members can watch this same episode roughly seven days from now on February 7th. This episode continues the adventures of the titular Log Horizon’s younger members: Isuzu, Serara, Rundelhaus, Tohya, and Minori.
Things have gotten interesting when they came across Roe-2, a female version of Shiroe and also a vampire. I didn’t know vampires existed in the Elder Tale MMORPG, where the players are trapped inside. This makes me question the logic of choosing to become a vampire in the game if the weakness to sunlight applies as well because that would suck for game play experience. It would not surprise me if her stats drop during the daytime.
Minori is definitely fast to point out the similarities between Shiroe and Roe-2. It is also revealed that healing spells harm vampire players including Roe-2. I can assume that poison spells might heal players like her.
I got nostalgic with the dining scene as it made think about Van from Gun X Sword whenever he eats.
The next scene reminded me of the Twilight spoof movie Vampires Suck. I bet if Roe-2 watched the Twilight series, she wouldn’t hesitate to purge herself of the vampire subclass. If vampires in the game have the same weakness, why would that character class be in a game in the first place?
I was surprised that Roe-2’s mood changed when Tohya called her sister.
Shiroe and the rest of the Round Table members must deal with a new problem in Akihabara: the rising potential of monopolies. It was something that Shiroe had not thought about during the first season when he helped create the societal infrastructure for Akihabara.
A monopoly was expected sooner or later.
It got interesting on an intellectual level when the socioeconomic dynamic is presented in Akihabara because of the wealth and income gap. In real life, people will tell you to change jobs or careers if you are dissatisfied with the amount of money you are making.
But it’s neither simple nor easy in Log Horizon because the player’s class and subclass. If your subclass is a chef, your culinary skills are top key.
This presents a new compound problem for the Round Table and a misstep would destroy everything it has worked hard for.
The next scene was funny and adorable when Roe-2 summoned her skeleton servants, who looked at Serara’s servant with adoration.
I enjoyed this episode as it makes Log Horizon feel like Game of Thrones and House of Cards, where Shiroe comes off as a nicer version of US President Frank Underwood. It feels like all these subplots will collide and create one big subplot that connects Minami and Akihabara together. The mysterious Plant Hwyaden has my full attention in the story and I am curious on what major role it will play in the rest of the story.
