Review: ‘Fairy Tail 2’ EP 51 is full of “men”

Episode 51 of Fairy Tail 2, titled “Fairy Tail of the Dead Meeeen,” is currently streaming on FUNimation, Crunchyroll, and Hulu for paid subscribers. Free members can watch the same episode six days from now on April 3rd.

If you have already read the recent issues of the ongoing Fairy Tail manga, then you should what to expect with this episode. I will begin by saying that I loved Hiro Mashima’s subtle jab at the rising popularity of the zombie genre, which has almost completely saturated games, TV, and movies.

I busted out laughing when Ichiya from Blue Pegasus created his “ultimate perfume,” which he accidentally knocks over and allows to drain out. This is where the s—t hits the fan in the most comedic way possible, which makes the situation “scary.”

Fairy Tail’s mages are at work as usual, where Erza and other female mages are helping promote Yajima’s two new restaurants. I had to laugh when Erza revealed that she is completely ignorant on what is considered “hot.”

It is apparent that Ichiya has indoctrinated Erza into his belief of what is “hot.”

I cracked in laughter when Erza mentioned Ichiya, which made Wendy and Juvia have WTF expressions on their faces.

The educational lesson is cut short when Jet and Droy, who look like Ichiya, return before claiming Levy as their victim.

I agree that this is perhaps one of the most horrifying things in the Fairy Tail world.

Seeing Levy transform into Ichiya in anime form was more terrifying than it was when I was reading the manga issue.

It gets funnier by the minute when nearly everybody, which includes everybody at Fairy Tail, is infected by the perfume and ends up looking like Ichiya. The most f—ked moment of the story is the romantic scene between Alzack and Bisca, who get infected right before they kiss.

I was disappointed because I was expecting them to kiss in this episode, which they did in the manga issue.

This filler episode is perhaps one of the funniest that I have seen in Fairy Tail, but I am glad that the series is actually going to focus on the Tartarus Arc. I’m glad that the anime is getting on track because I was kind of getting annoyed at some of the fillers, but I do understand why studios make filler episodes in the first place.

I loved this episode because it playfully pokes fun at the zombie genre.

Mashima found a creative and original way to make a convincing parody of the zombie apocalypse by using Ichiya.
