Review: Criss Angel dazzles on the second season of ‘Mindfreak’ DVD set (Includes first-hand account)

The first DVD begins with Angel succeeding in levitating from building to building, and it is followed by making a fan vanish into thin air. He subsequently goes to a park and splits people in half and immediately breaks into Angel walking on top of water on a Las Vegas pool. The most impressive act is when he makes an elephant disappear, thus tipping his hat to Siegried & Roy, both of which were known for their disappearing acts with animals. The first DVD concludes with Angel going to the various nightclubs in Las Vegas, where he performs impressive illusions that include champagne bottles.

In the second DVD, Angel does an astonishing motorcycle jump, proving that he is a true daredevil. He shows his ability to read other people’s minds and the minds of celebrities, one of which is Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath. He subsequently returns home to his Long Island high school in East Meadow and performs illusions with high school students, leaving them in total awe. It ends with Angel correctly predicting the first, second and third place outcomes of a car race.

Angel conducts his popular “metamorphosis” illusion, which he does in a world record-breaking time, and he helps out Chad Juros, a young aspiring magician who had cancer and used magic as a means of escape and hope. This proves that Angel has a big heart, and Juros’ story is one that will resonate well with the viewers.

Disc three begins with Angel using comedian Carrot Top as a guinea pig for his motorcycle roulette illusion, and he pays tribute to the military by performing several cool illusions and magic tricks for the troops. His two most dangerous illusions involve aquatic activities such as trying to escape from a cage at the bottom of the ocean floor (surrounded by sharks and jellyfish), as well as being pulled by a jet ski (at a rate of 40 miles per hour), while having a straight jacket on. This is one disc, filled with a great deal of suspense, where the audience will be at the edge of their seats. On a more positive note, it includes Angel accepting his well-deserved “Magician of the Year” award.

The Verdict

Overall, this second season of Mindfreak is a must for any fans of magician Criss Angel. It has some top-notch illusions that are worth checking out. He proves that he is a master in the art of magic. It garners an A rating.
