Review: Chris Hardwick terrific at The Paramount in New York (Includes first-hand account)

“What’s going on Huntington?” he asked, and was subsequently greeted with a raucous applause. He went on to interact well with the crowd, and he praised the venue for being “amazing” and “gorgeous.”

He asked a young audience member what year he was born and the fan responded “1999,” which he acknowledged as a time when Kurt Cobain had been dead for five years, and when dial-up Internet was the primary form of internet connectivity; moreover, it was a time when the term “grunge” was unfamiliar to the 17-year-old.

Hardwick asked the audience members what their various occupations were (such as engineers, project manager, police officer), and he admitted that they were far more exciting than the ones he heard the previous night when he played in Atlantic City, where the majority of that crowd responded “retired.”

He went on to share his experiences with his fiancee Lydia, and he revealed that he is a dog person, while Lydia prefers cats, hence they have a cat in the house. Recently, they got into a dispute over the cat since for three consecutive nights the cat vomited on his foot, and he had to explain himself to Lydia as to what he did to promote this vomit warfare.

Hardwick cheered the crowd on for being “rowdy.” “It’s a good night,” he said. When an audience member offered to buy him a shot of whiskey, he politely declined by stating that he has been sober for 13 years now, and that he doesn’t drink anymore since he does not want to punish his liver anymore.

He invited a question and answer session with his fans, and at one point, this journalist was afforded the privilege to ask Hardwick how it felt to win a 2015 Primetime Emmy award. “It felt pretty good,” Hardwick said, and added that it was “better than being made sweet love to.”

The highlight portion of the show was at the end, which ended with a marriage proposal, where a fan proposed to his girlfriend, and Hardwick served as facilitator for that proposal, which was a neat ending.

Long Island medium and psychic Janet Russell, who was present at the comedy show, said, “It was a great show. I so loved the way he got involved with the audience. He even climbed up to the top balcony. Loved when he started to read Markos’ notes that he was writing for the Digital Journal about the show. Loved the way he was so spontaneous and enjoyed that nothing was scripted. The best was when a young man raised his hand and then got on his knee and asked his girlfriend of two years to marry him and the whole room applauded. All in all, the Paramount sure gets dynamite talent.”

The Verdict

Overall, Chris Hardwick put on a fun and entertaining live stand-up comedy show. He was definitely spontaneous and one of the best comedians that has ever graced the Paramount stage, along with Mike Marino. Hardwick is worth seeing live whenever he is in the area. He earned 5 out of 5 stars for a job well done.
